Strong Defence

Jinnah's Ideals

“The war-weary humanity is watching with fear and hope the evolution of the United Nations Organization for its ability to successfully deal with the causes of war and threats to world peace. The salvation of mankind and the future of civilization depends on it. Pakistan which has been recently admitted to the United Nations Organization will do everything in its power to the strengthen the Organization and help in the achievement of the ideals which have been set up as its goal. While giving the fullest support to the principles of the United Nations Charter we cannot afford to neglect our defences. However, strong the United Nations Organization might be, the primary responsibility for the defence of our country will rest with us and Pakistan must be prepared for all eventualities and dangers. The weak and the defenceless in this imperfect world invite aggression from others. The best way in which we can serve the cause of peace is by removing the temptation from the path of those who think we are weak, and therefore, they can bully or attack us. That temptation can only be removed if we make ourselves so strong that nobody dares entertain any aggressive designs against us. Pakistan is still in its infancy and so is it's Navy and other branches of the Armed Forces. But this infant means to grow up and God willing will grow up much sooner than people think. Every one of you has an important role to play in strengthening the defence of the country and your watchwords should be faith, discipline and self-sacrifice. You will have to make up for the smallness of your size by your courage and selfless devotion to duty for it is not life that matters but the courage, fortitude and determination you bring to it. I trust that by your behaviour and deportment you will never let Pakistan down but would keep up the best traditions of the service and maintain high the honour and prestige of Pakistan as one of the greatest nations of the world.”

Deeper reflections

Pakistan’s Foreign Policy

Our foreign policy is one of friendliness and goodwill towards all the nations of the world. We do not cherish aggressive designs against any country or nation. We believe in the principle of honesty and fair play in national and international dealings and are prepared to make our utmost contribution to the promotion of peace and prosperity among the nations of the world.

Primary Responsibility of Defence

Pakistan holds the primary responsibility of its defense. The Pakistan Army is one of its kind in the whole of Muslim World. This unique distinction that we enjoy is a befitting compliment to our prestigious State. Our victories and achievements in World War II are too well-known for us to recount.

Further, during the establishment of Pakistan in 1947 almost every unit of the Army had been reformed, and within the short period of eight months, we knit ourselves into a formidable team. All this happened while we were continuously being called upon to perform multifarious duties, such as evacuating millions of stranded Muslims from Eastern Punjab and States and maintaining law and order within our own borders. This is a great achievement in itself and can only be attributed to the high morale, integrity, selfless devotion to duty and loyalty.

Pakistan’s history arms its citizens and its military with inspiring confidence and fearless courage to be prepared to face all eventualities.

Invitation to aggression
In the interrelation of States - it is true that the weak and defenceless invite aggression from others. The best way in which we can serve the cause of peace is by removing the temptation from the path of those who think we are weak.

The national conscience has been deeply stirred from recent events -- the citizens of Pakistan and
its army are prepared to take on any hazardous duty which we may be called upon to perform.

While the evils of war stare at our faces -- the necessity of responding to India’s aggression is the unmistakable national will.

The unthinkable as an option

The virtues of a disproportionate response from the Pakistani side are currently under consideration by its power-centres. Therefore, it is the moral duty of the Indian intelligentsia to condemn the attack on Pakistan’s soil for the region’s peace, stability and security.

The way forward

The Modi government’s obscene populist agenda and it’s knee-jerk violent reactions to complex political problems must be called out by the Indian intelligentsia. This is a not a ‘war of principles’ but instead a war born out of a pathetic hatred that fuels the Indian vote bank masked under the veil of false pretexts.

In the evolved mind of the Pakistani citizens -- such wars, however, now belong to the past. The responsibility lies in the hands of the Indian public to place their government in hands of individuals more emancipated from the prejudices of a bygone age.

In very short time - Pakistan will grow stronger than ever imaginable to replace the passions of hate and crude self-assertion in the sub-continent by giving way to compassion and brotherhood. God willing - we shall achieve this and we shall always maintain high the honour and prestige of Pakistan as one of the greatest nations of the world.
